Hi Juanita,
After 350/400 years, our name is still pronounced on the english way(which is quite different than the german one) and my grand father was completely sure his own ancestor arrives to Riga around 1620/40 from England.in fact the 1st Neese's birth I found in Riga is on 1655 which correspond to a Neese family tree I'd from a cousin ( H. von loewenwolde)of my grand father( Paul Carl Alexander Neese). In another letter I found, he says that his family belongs to the English church and that all the Riga Neese members went to England to study and learn the craft( unfortunatly he doesn't say where...but I've an idea about!). My grand father and brothers and sisters were speaking and writing perfectly english, french, german and russian. Do you know the name of your "german" ancestor? he might be one of the same family who settled in Germanyafter 1650, who knows?!
