Cynthia Neeley m. Joseph Hastings - TN
Several family trees on Rootsweb or Ancestry.com show that Cynthia Neeley, the first wife of Joseph Hastings, was born 17 Oct 1814 in Orange County, North Carolina. She married Joseph around 1835, in Tennessee (probably Bedford County), and had five children before Cynthia died around 1849.
None of those family trees identify Cynthia's parents.
But I think I have figured out who they are.
On 26 Nov. 1814 a bastardy bond was posted with the Orange County court showing that John Neeley fathered a child born to Nancy Inscore.
This John Neeley is most likely John Neeley, Jr. (1786-1855) of Orange County.Nancy is the daughter of Reuben Inscore and Mary Hays. She married Benjamin Ledbetter on 8 Oct 1816 in Orange County.
I am positive that Cynthia Neeley is the child of John Neeley and Nancy Inscore. She was born a month before the bastardy bond was issued. And she probably wound up in Tennessee as part of the migration of several families (including the Hastings) from Orange County to Bedford County in the early nineteenth century.
