Mary,

I am a Needham, living in England, and my fathers name is Nee.

My father is from Leenane, Galway.

My grandfather, Patrick, emigrated to USA around 1916 and, so the story goes, was forced to change his name to Needham in Ellis Island.

Nee and Needham are both anglicisations of the gaelic which was something like "O Niadh".

My grandfather Patrick Nee (or Needham) left my father in Ireland to be brought over later but never managed it. He had four other children in Cleveland Ohio. He then lost contact with our family, in around 1928.

So if anyone knows of a Patrick Nee or Needham from around that time in the Ohio area, we would love to hear about him.

John Needham
