The Ankney family was Huguenot with some members being Reformed ministers. > > The farthest back we can confirm is an Abel Anguenet who married Angelica Vinan (Vinot) of the Vitry-Le-Francois family and resided in Pfalsbourg. He was the son of Pierre Agne de la Mothe-le Roux, a Nobleman. A coat of > arms was presented to him having a red field with a silver chevron and two silver mill grinders, one in each upper corner. The name is derived from the latin name, Ananias. Ananias = Anian, Angnan, Angne and Agne. His son Peter Agne (Angne, Anguenet) baptised at Pfalsbourg (now Phalsburg in the Moselle area of the Lorraine section of > France) around 1650. Around 1670 he emigrated to Duchy of Zweibrucken, Germay. He was a carpenter and mill builder by trade. He married prior to 1674, Ottilie Trautman and died around 1702. Otillie Trautman was baptized > 6 May 1655 in Lamsborn Reformed Church, died at Lamsbirn 21 Feb. 1730. She had siblings Michael, Ruprecht, Jean, George, Anna Elizabeth, Anna Catherine and Agnes. She was the daughter of George Trautman, farmer and Mayor of Vogel Bacherhof, near Lamsborn, whose wife was Elizabeth Romer of Kashofen, the daughter of Daniel Romer. George died 4 Nov 1680. His siblings were Theobald, Friedrich, Peter, Joseph and Rosina. His parents were Jacoby and Margaret Trautmann. Jacoby Trautman was the son of Jacob Trautmann, Jr. born 1558 in Lamsborn a student at Hornback Gymnasium (High School) from 1573-1581. Student of Theology at Strassburg, Lutheran Pastor from 1583-1593 and again 1595-1609, a farmer in Lambsborn from 1593-1597. Married Barbara, died before 1609. > Jacob Jr. was the son of Jacob Trautmann, Sr. the Stammvater of the Trautmann family, born in Lambsborn about 1535, a farmer. Married Schneider the daughter of Censor Schneider Hansen and Beyer Ottilie. He died 1589. > > Peter Agne had a son Johan Heinrich AGne born 2 March 1698 in Lambsborn. He married Christine Cantor the daughter of Johannes Cantor 19 Jan 1723. Shortly after his Johan Theobalt (Dewalt) Agne was born, he died 25 Dec. > 1727. Johan Theobalt Agne was born 16 Nov. 1727 in Lambsborn, confirmed in 1741, came to America, landing in Philadelphia on 25 Oct. 1746 aboard the ship Neptune. Settled first in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Around 1762 he > settled in Washington County Maryland near Clear Springs, died in 1781. From here Johan Theobald is referred to as Dewalt in America. The Ankney's have some pretty exciting history.
