John P. Nedrow was born July 22, 1832 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania and died August 4, 1921 in Centerville, South Dakota. He was a private in Company "K" 171 Regiment Pennsylvania drafted October 24, 1862 at Camp Carson for nine months mustered out at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, August 6, 1863. His final rate of pay for the pension was $72 a month. He is described as 5 feet 7 1/4 inches, fair complexion, Blue eyes, sandy hair, 140 pounds. He lived in Jasper County (1863-1880) and Audobon Counties (1880-1910)in Iowa and Lincoln County (1910-1911) and finally Centerville, Turner County, South Dakota. He was hospitalized in Brooklyn Township, Lincoln County, South Dakota with extreme Ashma and disease of the respiratory system. He married Lucy Ann LINT June 13, 1852 in Somerset County, Pensylvania. The marriage was performed by Soloman Engle. They had six kids: Henry born July 9, 1854, Josiah born November 30, 1856, Minerva born March 25, 1859, Harriet born July 19, 1861, Tena born July 5, 1864, and John W born March 7, 1873 and died January 1, 1874. Ashma was brought on by exposure and has continued since the Civil War. Affadavits by several neighbors indicate that before the war he did not have ashma but after the war he did have ashma which only got worse in his later years.
