There is no death! The stars go down
To rise upon some fairer shore,
And bright in heaven's dwelled crown
They shine forevermore
About four years ago a small growth was noticed on the face of Simon P. Nedrow. At first it was not deemed serious, but it failed to respond to treatment and grew larger; finally showing the dread symptom--cancer. For
several months his condition was critical, and death at any time would have been a welcome relief as expressed by the aged sufferer. All day Sunday the anxious watchers noticed that his feet were treading the shadowed valley. Thus surrounded by the family his weary eyes closed Monday morning in the last dreamless sleep--"blessed sleep, from which none ever wake to weep"--and his spirit passed beyond the rended veil.
Simon P. Nedrow was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, February 1, 1820 and was aged at death 89 years, he migrated with his parents to Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Here on July 20, 1841 he was united in marriage
to Rebecca Crites. Six children were born to them, three sons and three daughters; one daughter died in infancy and one son soon after he had entered a promising young manhood. Two sons, Simington of Ashton, Idaho
and John Wesley of Oregon, and two daughters, Salome now Mrs. Samuel Lantis, and Mary, (relict of the late Michael Hey of Markle, with the aged wife survive).
Not only did Grandpa Nedrow exceed by nearly a score of years the Psalmist span of life, but he had the rare experience of seeing the fifth generation. Aside from the children, there are 21 grandchildren, 28 great
grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren to mourn their loss.
In 1852 he moved with his family to Indiana, settling near Trinity chapel in Union Township, Wells County. Afterward they moved to Huntington County. Here they resided until about 8 years ago, when the now aged
husband and wife were given a home with their daughter, Mrs. Michael Hey, a mile east of Own in Wells County. Upon the death of Mr. Hey, Mrs. Hey moved to town still caring and giving a home to father and mother. Here it is that the aged parent closed his eyes to earthly scenes.
While yet a young man in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, he committed his life into the keeping of Him who said, "Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest". He became a member of the Church of God whose discipline is the bible. Through the many years of his earthly life, it was his truest friend, as at all times and in all circumstances, he found the consolation in it alone can give. Unassuming and modest, he
did his duty in as it came day by day, fulfilling the highest law of faithfulness in "little things".
The daughter Mrs. Hey and her aged mother are deeply grateful for the help and sympathy and express a heartfelt thanks.
The funeral was conducted at 10:00 at the Brethren Church were services were conducted by the Pastor Elder D. B. Garber, burial in the Markle Cemetary.
