Circa 1890s photo of Artemus B. Near
I recently purchased a Bushnell family album containing the subject undated studio portrait of a young man taken by Stewart & Woost, Oneida, NY.It is identified on the page holder:
"Artemus B. Near
Addie Bushnell's husband"
I found this individual listed in the 1880 and 1900 Census data for Lenox, Madison Co., NY; the 1910 Census data for Lenox, village of Canastota (resided at 217 Spencer Street), Madison Co., NY; the 1920 Census data for Syracuse (resided at 502 James Street), Onondaga Co., NY; and the 1930 Census data for Lenox, village of Canastota (resided at 215 Spencer Street), Madison Co., NY.Born Sep 1867, he was the son of a farmer, Timothy G. Near, born about 1828 in NY, died 29 Dec 1890, and Nancy S. Crosby, born about 1839 in NY.
In about 1891, Artemus Near married Addie H. Bushnell, born Dec 1867 in NY, the daughter of Charles R. Bushnell, born Aug 1823 in CT, and Addie (maiden name unknown), born Apr 1837 in NY.Artemus and Addie had two children: Howard B. Near, born Mar 1894 in NY (died between 19 Jun 1900 and 19 Apr 1910, and Goodwin R. Near, born Jan 1897 in NY.
At the time of the 1900 Census, Artemus worked as a farmer.At the time of the 1910 Census, he was employed as a pickle factory manager.At the time of the 1920 Census, he worked as a grocery store salesman.At the time of the 1930 Census, he was an odd jobs laborer.
