James H Neeley/Neely/Nealy
Posted by: Sherry Quade Date: November 06, 1999 at 08:26:02

I have a copy of my great great grandfather's death certificate who was James H Neeley. It appears that on the few records I have found that various spellings have been used. The death certifcate uses the Neeley spelling and the cemetery records are spelled Nealy, the way my grandmother spelled her maiden name. The information on the certificate shows James was born 1-6-1846 in Overton County, Tennessee. He is listed as the son of Wm.J.Neely born in Tennessee and mother's maiden name and place of birth unknown. He died 2-7-1918 in Webb City, Missouri and is buried in the Carterville Cemetery. The informant was Mrs. Ellen Neeley. He had married to Mary "Ellen" Brockman.

A 1900 census indicates that James and Ellen had been married 32 years and Ellen had given birth to 10 children with 6 still living. James was listed as a fireman. 28 year old George and 26 year old Will were still living at home. Will, my great grandfather, married Mary Anna Hood in 1901 in Webb City.

Any other information on this family would be most useful!
