Can you help fill in or suggest sources for the missing details on Jane? We are looking for her maiden name, names of her parents, name of her last husband, and death dates.
John Cockle (born 1854 in Illinois) was married to Helen Cornelia Buck (born 1859 in Illinois). They left Illinois sometime after the death of their two oldest sons Lester and Paul in January 1887.
They were living in Arborville Township, York County, Nebraska when 1900 Census was taken in June with Clarence Werden (13), Elmer Richmond (12), William Earl (10), Sarah Mildred (8), and Helen Lucille (a baby). Helen Cornelia Buck Cockle died in 1904 in Nebraska leaving a family of young children.
Also on the 1900 Census in York County is Annie H. and ____ Meredith. We are wondering if they might be Jane's parents. So far I have not found Jane on the 1900 Census.
I have not yet found the John Cockle family and Jane on the 1910 Census. Jane served as a housekeeper for the family. At a later unknown date Jane married widowed John Cockle. Also at an unknown date at least part of the family moved to Texas. They were there by the time the 1919 Houston City Directory was printed.
The 1920 Census for Houston, Texas lists her as Jane P. Cockle, age 54, born in Ohio, and her parents were born in Wales. The two youngest children, Helen Lucille (20) and George Dean (18) were living with John Cockle and Jane when the 1920 Census was taken.
John Cockle died in 1921 in Houston, Texas. Jane remained a widow at least through 1925. She is not in the 1929/1930 Houston City Directory. Somewhere in the time period she married a Mr. Tracy and moved to California.
In the early 1930's my husband was quite young and remembers visiting at their home. Jane and Mr. Tracy were his step-grandparents. They may have lived in various towns. One place they lived was in Oakland, California on 90th Avneue.
The California Death Index lists a Jane Tracy, born 16 March 1865 in Ohio, mother's maiden name Hughes, that died in Alameda County, California 15 February 1954. No father's last name was given on the database. It appears she is the Jane Tracy we are looking for, so now we would like to find her parents and husband.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.
