There were many Babcocks in the Humboldt area. Joel B. Babcock (b.3-25-1849 d. 12-15-1921) and Susan M. Babcock (b. 10-3-1851 d. 6-26-1928) are both in the Humboldt cemetery along with several other Babcocks. The only Robert Babcock listed in the cemetery records is a WWII vet b. 1921 d. 1954.

The first Babcock in the Humboldt area apparently was the Rev. Thomas E. Babcock, who organized the Long Branch Seventh-Day Baptist church in the Long Branch area five miles NW of Humboldt in 1863. Charter members of this church included several Babcocks: Joshua G., Charlotte T., John Smally, Sarah, Silas, and Emily. About 1871 Rev. Uri Martin Babcock served as pastor. He again served in 1887 and was still serving in 1892. This church information is from L. C. Edwards' History of Richardson County (1917)

The Long Branch cemetery records show the following family members: Curtis 1870-1889, Cynthia d.1912, George W. d.1908, Horace C. 1856-1874, and Uri S. 1867-1884.

I hope this information is helpful.
