Ira Watts Dies Sunday Afternoon
Ira Watts, 85, Rulo, died suddenly at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 1976, at East Valley View Nursing Home here soon after eating his noon meal. He had returned to his room from the dining room.
A native of Fortescue, MO., Mr. Watts was born Jan. 15, 1891, a son of the late Dennis Watts and Rena (Eastridge) Watts. He moved from the Fortescue area across the Missouri River on ice to the Hiawatha, Kansas, vicinity with his parents in 1905.
He was married to Miss Edna Toupain, April 23, 1913, at Hiawatha. They established their home at Wetmore, Kansas, vicinity and later moved to a farm northeast of Hiawatha. He farmed in Brown County, Kansas, for many years and later worked on farms in that area. He had lived in Rulo the last 30 years.
Surviving Mr. Watts are a daughter, Mrs. Bud (Pauline) Oldfield, Rulo; two sons, Edward Watts, White Cloud, Kansas, and Frederick Watts, Kansas City, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Irene Fee, 20, in 1935, and by a great-granddaughter, three brothers and two sisters.
The body of Mr. Watts is here at the Dorr Funeral Home where the funeral will be held in the chapel at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Charles Kersey officiating. Interment will be in the Rulo Cemetery.
