States: Nebraska: Otoe
CYRUS FOLSOM was living in Otoe County in Aug 1856, acording to the territorial census. He was a common laborer and his birthplace was given as Missouri, probably a misreading of the census manuscript for Maine. The Federal census of 1860 gives his birthplace as Maine and his aged as 29 years. He was unmarried and owned personal property worth $50.00. At that time he was living with the family of Samuel Ivers. Cyrus Folsom enlisted in the First Nebraska Volunteers in 1861 and was mustered into Company D as a private June 10. At that time his age was given as 36, or perhaps 30, and his birthplace as Vermont. On March 20, 1862, he was marked as a deserter, but he later returned to his company and was mustered out, Aug 24, 1864. He returned to Nebraska City where he was assessed for personal taxes, March 1866.
