Nuckolls County Courthouse
the courthouse is located on the square in Nelson. The mailing address is : Box 366, Nelson, Nebraska 68961. Courthouse hours are 8:30am to 12:00 am and 1:00pm-5:00pm Monday through Friday. Closed all holidays ... when writting to a county office, always include a self addressed stamped envelope.
County Clerk
will answer leters if request is not extensive and long. Will allow research in person. Fee for copies is 50cents per each page. $1.50 if certified mail.
Records held include;
Deeds and mortgages 1871 to present.
Marriage 1872 to present, alphabetical index.
Survey records 1874 to presnt.
Commissioners records 1871 to present.
Clerk of District Court
Will answer letters and will allow research in person. Fee for copies is 50cents per each page, $1.50 if certified.

Criminal records 1871 to present.
Divorce records 1871 to present.
Naturalization records---very limited information.
County Judge
Will answer letters. Will allow research in person but discourage Wednesday as it is a court day. Fee for copies is $1.00 per each page.
Records held include;
Probates 1871 to present with alphabetical index.
County court records.
County School Superintendent
Will answer letters and will allow research in person.
office hours Monday and Tuesday only.

Nuckolls County teachers file, 1893 to present
Hardy High School records.
School census records, 1896 to present. the census is filed by school district. To find a family, one must know the district number. 1900 school district map on the following page.... HOWEVER< I DID NOT MAKE A COPY OF THE DISTRICT AREA. oppss, sorry folks.

Nuckolls County Mortuaries
Several small towns in Nuckolls County had early day mortuaries. Some of them were a comination undertaker, coffin maker and furniture dealer. records from those early mortuaries have not been located. Is is assumed their records have been lost.

My interest is that of William Smallwood found in 1880 in Lead City, Nebraska, Lawrence County........
The Smallwood family is my father's Grandmother's side...
I followed up on information I had for sometime, and found him in 1880...countinue to look thru the Nebrask.. I never thought he would be there, buttt there he was.So I encourage you folks to follow up on your information, guesses, and knowing for sure.

I may write a few of these places myelf and see if anyone has any informtion on my William A. Smallwood.
