In the 1870 census for Otoe Co., NE, there is a REXER family who may have been the earliest settlers there, and other family members followed them. It looks like they spent time in Illinois, as others after them did as well. Here are census records I find and hope they help: 1870 Otoe Co., Nebraska: Rexer, J., 43, female, b. IA Rexer, M., 37, male, brick moulder, b. Prussia Rexer, C.E., 33, female, keeping house, b. NY Rexer, L., 10, female, b. IL Rexer, M.M., 8, male, b. IL Rexer, M.E., 5, female, b. NE Rexer, S.C., 13, female, b. NE You can check the 1880 census at www.familysearch.com 1900 census, Otoe Co., NE, Four Mile Pct.: Rexer, John J., b. Dec 1832, age 67, married 40 yrs, b. Germany, farmer Rexer, Mary, b. Sep 1836, age 62, b. NY Rexer, Clara E., b. Mar 1862, age 37, single, b. IL Rexer, Rosa B., b. Mar 1875, age 25, single, b. NE Rexer, John J., b. Dec 1879, age 21, single, b. NE 1910 census, York Co., NE, 2nd Ward, town of York: Rexer, John J., age 77, b. Germany, parents born Germany, own income Rexer, Mary E., 73, married 51 yrs, gave birth to 8 children, 6 survive, b. NY, father b. CT, mother b. PA Rexer, Clara, age 50, single, b. IL, no occupation I wonder if Clara was perhaps disabled in some way and therefore never married. Typically if she were a "spinster" she would have probably had an occupation such as teacher, etc. I hope this helps. If I can do other free look-ups for you, please let me know.
