Ron,
Thanks for the reply.I don't think my family actually stayed in St. Joe.If they did, it was for a very short time and would have been between February 1883 and March 1885.It was apparently the ultimate destination for the "Waynesville colonly," a group of people who came west together via the RR from Waynesville, IL.(The document I found regarding the group says Waynesville, OH, but after doing some research, I am quite sure it should have been Waynesville, IL.)
Various families left at various points along the way and I suspect my great grandfather, George Beeler McComb, left the group before they reached St. Joe.In March 1885 his daughter Nancy, my grandmother, was married in Seward County.According to the marriage certificate the ceremony took place at the home of the bride. She was only 17 at the time and my great grandfather, who was a minister, performed the ceremony.Since my grandfather, William Russell Marshall, was from Seward County, it makes sense that the McCombs had been living there for a while- at least long enough for Nancy and William to have made acquaintance.
If you are interested, I do have the names of the families who were with the Waynesville group and would be glad to share them with you.Since there were a bunch of them, it is likely at least one or two stayed in the area.
