Davis in Grand Island, 1940s
I would like to locate a Davis family that would have been in Grand Island, Nebraska in the 1940s. My grandmother’s second husband was named Carl Austin Davis. He was born November 5, 1914 [don’t know where] and died June 20, 1966 in Papillion. He was laid to rest at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn.
According to his obit, he had a son named Darrell, living in Grand Island, and another son named William, living in FT. Worth, Texas, at the time of his death. Darrell and William were Carl’s sons by a previous marriage. The other children listed in his obituary were grandma’s by a previous marriage, and one daughter by Carl. My only clues to Carl’s identity is that he was a cab driver in Grand Island when my grandmother first met him, about 1945 or 1946, and my dad remembers visiting Carl’s sister in Arkansas when they were kids.
Carl was married [2nd] to Mrs. Vera Bloise [Fletcher] Hill in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 4, 1948. After their marriage, all of Vera’s children began going by the name of Davis, even though they were never legally adopted. My father was still going by Davis when my parents were married, and I became the first to be legally born as Davis in my direct bloodline.
Not only do I bear Carl’s surname, but I have the same initials as well [C.A.D.]. Grandpa and Grandma Davis raised me for nearly three years from the time I was an infant, and I have a number of photos of Carl. I would very much like to learn where he was born, and who his family was.
