Looking for information on WILLIAM A. TIPTON, b. 1839 in Washington CO., VA.He first enlisted in the Civil War (Confederate) Co., 30 ALa Infantry, at Camp Curry in Talladega CO., AL.Been captured once and paroled at Vicksburg MS (1863) and then captured again in Nashville TN by forces under Maj. Gen. Thomas (1864).He was transfered to Capt. S.E Jones in Louisville KY.then transferred to Camp Douglas ILL.He enlisted with the Union in Chicago ILL- Co., F, 6th U.S Vol. under Captain E. Sevest (?).WILLIAM A. TIPTON was discharged at Fort Kearney Nebaska Oct. 10, 1866.Where would I get copies of his discharge papers and also the information that was given to get his Government tombstone.He d 1827 in Lamar CO., AL and is buried in Payne Chapel Cemetery.Would like to get his parents names, have his pension papers but no parent information was given.
