In the early days on the Nebraska plains there were many soddys.No trees to speak of.The land was mostly prarie and what better use of the sod for insulation from hot sun and held in the warmth from the burning buffalo and cow chips.Hay was also burned.
Wood was scarce.Soddys were all over Nebraska.My Grandmother was born in a soddy in Stuart Nebraska.
