Delmer Powell mentioned some Cross sisters in his "History of Powell, Nebraska" but he didn't give their genealogies. He said, "3 women by the name of Cross married Powells --Mary Cross married T.J. Powell; Suzie Cross married W. Powell; and one of the Cross sisters married T.C. Powell -- who is buried in Powell Cemetry [sic] --- I have no record of him belonging to Powell family --can anyone explain this?"Ealier in the paper he said, "I was acquainted with 2 of the original Powell Pioneers -- Mrs Emma Powell Pickering (my Great Aunt "Em") and Mrs Mary Cross Powell (my Great Aunt "Ide"). These are the only Cross names that he mentioned.
My husband's ancestor, Reuben B. Powell, had 2 brothers who also lived in Powell, NE.They were James D. Powell, b. 6/22/1845 in Graysville, Monroe Co., OH, d. 12/3/1888 in Powell and Thomas Jefferson "T.J." Powell, b. 10/11/1854 in Graysville, OH, d. 5/3/1924 in Powell.Either one of these men could have been the father of your William O. Powell. There also could have been another brother who joined the family later who was named William.I only have names for 7 children of John and Amelia Blair Powell. That was a relatively small family for those days.I don't have any information on James D. or T.J. Powell except Delmer reported that T.J. married Mary Cross. Could T.C. Powell be your Thomas Clarence Powell? (see above paragraph).
Reuben B. Powell and Sarah Elizabeth Green had 12 children who would be about the same age as the individuals you described. They did have one child named John William Powell but he was b. 8/11/1885 and d. 10/15/1954.
Apparently Delmer was an old man when he wrote the letter in 1983 but he may still be alive. This letter was not written just for my mother-in-law's benefit.Someone else in the Powell area (maybe there's a Historical Society) may have the information.Delmer mentioned someone by the name of Dawson who also wrote about the area. Delmer said that he visited the Love Library at the University of Nebraska which has a good collection of maps and hisory of NE.I'll send you a copy of Delmer's letter if you'll send me your snail-mail address via e-mail (my scanner is broken so I can't e-mail it to you).I'll write to my mother-in-law who is vacationing in NC and ask her if she has any info on Delmer.
