30 Names from Fremont, Dodge Co., NE>1928-1930

I have a quilt that was made by 30 women who each contributed a square. On each square is what I thought was Holly Hobby, but simular. A solid color fabric for the bonnet, arm and foot, with a print fabric for the dress. Each woman embroidered her name on the square she made. I have found almost all these women in the 1931 US Directory for Fremont, Nebraska. Some of their husbands worked at Chicago & North Western Ry. The names and what little I found are listed below with the way her name appears on the quilt, followed by what I've found:

1. Georgia Waterman, son John and Jean.

2. Mable Schnabel, [Mabel]; lived at 1420 E. 6th Str., son William, dau. Anna.

3. Josie Rowe, lived at 805 N. Hancock.

4. Dayle Rhoads, lived at 1410 E. 6th Str.; dau. Dorothy; son Melvin.

5. Marjorie Rea, [Ray], lived at 706 E. 10th Str.

6. D. Zornes, [Delia], lived at 1021 E. Military Ave.

7. Ethel Myers, husband John; dau. Elsie; s. Earl; lived at 906 E. 6th Str.

8. Alma Morgan, lived at 937 N. Garfield.

9. Mrs. A. L. Masters, [Dora], husband Arthur; son Raymond; dau. Dorothea; lived at 404 E. 10th Str.

10. Grace Jirous, husband Joe/Joseph; lived at 740 E. 1st Str.

11. Mrs. Huff [Lucinda], lived at 1410 E. 6th Str.

12. Zoe Greenlee, husband Russell; dau. Mailyn; son Paul; son John; lived at 925 E. 8th Str.

13. Naomi Dodge, husband Theo W.; son Richard; dau. Marjorie; dau. Ramona; lived at 850 E. 10th Str.

14. Emily Clark, husband Adam; dau. Martha, 11 in 1930; son Charles, 9 in 1930; son Samuel, 5 in 1930; lived at 1322 E. 6th Str.

15. Carolyn Christensen, husband Everett L.; son Everett, 1yr 11mos in 1930; lived at 1250 Dodge.

16. D. M. Brandt [Dorothea], widow of William; son Orville, 8 in 1920; son Archibald, 7 in 1920; son Lester, 5 in 1920; lived at 740 N. Platte.

17. Tena Benton.

18. Mrs. McPherson (4 found: Ellen, Hattie, Nellie, and Jennie.

19. Mrs. Hart.

20. Ruth M. Carleton (I didn't find her listed in the directory)

21. Mrs. Morgan (I assume a relation to Alma)

22. Mrs. C. R. Richardson ( I didn't find her)

23. Mrs. M. J. Perry (not in 1931 Directory)

24. Alice Ritchie.

25. Mrs. Lillie.

26. Mrs. Wilkins.

27. Sylvia Johnson. (I found two: 239 W. 10th Str. and 706 E. 10th Str.)

28. Mrs. Bradbury.

29. Dorothea Bokowski.

30. O. Hillis or O'Hillis (this looks like Ohillis on the quilt.)

This quilt was given to my mother by a woman named Beard or Sargent who lived in Nebraska. Both have passed away and now I have it. It means nothing to me, but perhaps it would mean something to a relative of one of the women listed above. It's in excellent condition with just a little fading on the back seam where it was folded. No holes or stains.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
