Charles W. Morton's Marriage a Bit of a Romance
A special dispatch from New York to the Chicago Inter Ocean says:
"Sarah J. Whitney and Charles W. Morton of Omaha, Neb., first met at Burlington, Ia., years ago, and were sweethearts, but a change of fortune separated them. The girl went to New Haven, Conn., with her parents and he went to Omaha, where he became rich. Meanwhile the girl had married Ernest Whitney, an assistant professor of literature at Yale. She was a leading contralto of Trinity church, New Haven. Five years ago they went to Colorado. There Mrs. Whitney supported her invalid husband by teaching music, until his death from consumption twelve months ago. Then she returned to this city, where she lived with her sister, Mrs. Sumner Salter, at 320 East Sixteenth street. The lonely, gray-haired man in Omaha, who had carried her image in his heart through the years that divided them, heard that she was free, hurried here and renewed his suit. Tuesday morning they were married and took the express for Omaha."
Mr. Morton is a member of the hardware firm of Morton & Sons, and instead of being a "lonely gray haired man," is a young man and a handsome one at that and is well known throughout the city. Mr. Morton and bride returned yesterday from New York and will make this city their own.
