Hello,
I have a real brick wall that I am trying to break through. My father had a Uncle by the name of Alfred Jessie May, who according to what we have been told was born in Seattle, Washington on May 24, 1881, we have also heard that his parents names were Samuel May and Virginia (White)May. Samuel May died, it is believed somewhere in the Seattle, Washington area about 1890 at the age of 35.
Virginia following the death of her husband Samuel, met and married a man by the name of John Humphrey. The family then moved to Nebraska.
Alfred tried to enlist into the U.S. Army twice, the first time was at Fort Crook, Nebraska, he was turned down, he then went to St. Joseph, Missouri where he gave his name as Alfred J. Humphrey (his step-fathers name), he also gave his date of birth as May 24, 1878. He elisted at St. Joseph, Missouri on June 27, 1899, Alfred served during the Spanish American War, he was discharged on June 26, 1902 at Fort Wayne, Michigan.
When Alfred enlisted into the Army, he gave his step-father's (John Humphrey) residence as West Lincoln, Nebraska.
On a very brief family history on his military records, dated 1929, Alfred stated that, his mother was dead, and she was about 65 years old at the time of her death, (about 1924), (we do not know where Alfred's Father, Mother or Step-father are buried or when they died).
Alfred also stated that he had one brother and two sisters, but had no idea where they were or what became of them.
Following the Spanish American War, Alfred settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he married and raised a family he died on January 6, 1947, he is buried in Minneapolis.

If anyone out there thinks they might have some information about Alfred's family or step family, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you, Keith Lawrence
