O'Neill family in O'Neill NE ca.1900

I am looking for information about John and Nellie O'Neill who lived in O'Neill NE prior to 1905. John was killed in a team runaway there prior to 1905, leaving his wife Nellie and two children, William and baby John. Nellie was apparently in ill health. Baby John died then Nellie followed him in death. The orphaned William was raised by Nellie's sister Margaret Hurley, who was appointed guardianship of the boy after his mother's death. Unknown whether Hurley was Nellie and Margaret's maiden name or just Margaret's married name.
Was this O'Neill family connected with whomever the town was named after? John was apparently Irish.
William eventually ended up in Cody, WY. Also, does anyone know of a Holt Co. historical society or genealogy society or does the county maintain County Archives?
