I knew a John Betts who lived in Aurora, Hamilton County, Nebraska, (next county south of Central City in Merrick County. He had a thick accent, supposedly from Germany. He was an electrician and said "A shock is good for your liver." He must have been born around 1910 and married late in life. He is buried in Aurora Cemetery. This could be a son or nephew of Luther Betts, but the accent doesn't make sense if his father was born in Ohio -- unless he had a German mother.
