RUFF RITES SET MONDAY
Former Cairo Minister Dies in Colorado
Funeral services for the Rev. John F. Ruff, a native of Hall county and a former pastor of Christ's Lutheran church at Cairo, will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon in the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home. The Rev. O. A. Graebner, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Island cemetery.
Services were held this afternoon in the Lutheran church at Boulder, Colo. The funeral party is expected in Grand Island tomorrow.
Pastor Ruff, who died Wednesday at Boulder, was born on a farm north of Grand Island on Sept. 15, 1871, to Mr. and Mrs. John A. Ruff. He attended Trinity Lutheran school here. He attended advanced school and completed his studies at the seminary in Springfield, Ill.
In 1894, Pastor Ruff answered his first call, which was at Rolla, Mo. In succeeding years, he served pastorates at Wilcox, Neb., Sherwood, Ohio, Ellenwood, Kas., Micoma, Kas., Gladwin, Mich., Cairo and Riverdale, Neb. He retired from active ministerial duties in 1933. After a short stay at Lyons, Colo., he went to Boulder.
On Nov. 1, 1894, he and Miss Helena Krause were married at Rolla, Mo. Six children were born to them. Mrs. Ruff died in 1928. Late in 1929, he and Mrs. Carrie Horake were married at North Platte.
Pastor Ruff is survived by his wife, two sons, Martin Ruff of Boulder, Colo., and Adolph Ruff of Indiana; four daughters, Mrs. Beata Strege of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Emma Henke of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Gertrude Tieman of St. Francis, Kas., and the former Stella Ruff, now a married daughter, Salt Lake City, Utah, six brothers, the Rev. William Ruff and Charles L. Ruff of Orange, Cal., and Paul, Walter, Albert and Fred Ruff of Grand Island, five sisters, Mrs. Henry Rottman and Mrs. John Quandt of Orange, Cal., Mrs. Herman Stein and Mrs. William Sielaff of this city and Mrs. William Nau of Council Bluffs, Ia; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, and one brother, Henry Ruff.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock Sunday evening at the Livingston-Sondermann funeral home.
