In Reply to: Alan UPTON and Maude BURNELL by Murray Upton of 751

The 1920 US Federal Census for Douglas County, Omaha, Nebraska, enumerated 3-5 January:

Upton, A., head, owner, age 32, immigrated 1912, naturalized 1915, b. England, foreman, Packing Company\
Upton, Maude, 35, wife, b. Nebraska, father b. Ireland, mother b. Ireland
Upton, Francis M., 6, b. Nebraska, daughter
Upton, Adelaid, 5, b. Nebraska, daughter
Burnell, Caroline, mother-in-law, age 73, widow, b. Ireland

1930 US Federal Census for Douglas County, Omaha, Nebraska:
District 2, enumerated April 12, 1920
Upton, Maud S., head, rents, age 46, divorced, b. Nebraska, no occupation
Upton, Frances, 17, daughter, b. NE
Upton, Adelaide, 15, daughter, b. NE
Barnell, Caroline, mother, age 84, widow, b. Northern Ireland

1930, Omaha, Dist. 107, Ward 9:
Droth, Mary D., head, age 47, widow, b. Indiana
Upton, Alan, lodger, 41, divorced, b. England, supervisor, packing company
Schey, Arthur, lodger, 30, single, b. Iowa
Brown, Robert, lodger, 25, b. Ireland Free State

It appears after Alan and Maude divorced that Alan continued to support his family. He had been promoted to Supervisor at the packing company, but Maude is shown as having no occupation or income. It's probable that Alan continued to support the family.

From another record, I see that Alan Upton made his Declaration of Intention in Douglas County, Nebraska, at Omaha, in 1914. He was age 24. You should be able to obtain his naturalization papers there at the Courthouse, if you want them. They would probably give names of his parents, etc.

Also, he registered for the World War I military draft, stated he lived at 5601 N. 24th Street, Omaha, Nebraska; was born July 29, 1889, in Rugeley, England, was a street car conducted at the time, and had a wife and 2 babies. He was described as being of medium height, medium build, with light brown eyes and black hair. He signed the form on Jun 5, 1917.

There is a vague Nebraska record of a Maude Upton marrying a Dr. Powers, and this woman would be about the right age to be Maude Upton, former wife of Alan Upton. But it's unclear from the record.

I think it more likely that this is Maude Upton, who never re-married after divorcing Alan Upton:
California Death Record
Maude Francis Upton
b. 14 April 1884 in Nebraska
d. 6 June 1981 in San Diego, California
Father's surname - Burnell
Mother's maiden name - Watson

This might be your Alan Upton:
California Death Record
Alan Upton
b. 29 Jul 1889 in "other country"
d. 29 March 1954 in San Bernardino, California
No other info

I hope this helps you.
