Since this seems to be an unusual last name, this could be a relative (possibly her parents). "Remains to be found" lists Samuel Van Scyoc as an early Omaha Settler. Born 14 June 1837 Chambersburg, PA. Removed to NE in May 1868. Married 7 Feb. 1867 at Fort Madison, IA. Settled on a farm near Valley. Died 23 Apr. 1917 near Valley. Served in Company II, 2nd Iowa Infantry. Also, in Elk City Cemetery:
VanScyoc, Samuel June 14, 1838 (note discrepency) to April 28, 1911
VanScyoc, Helen MacMartin - Aug. 18, 1901 - ?
VanScyoc, Cornelia June 24, 1836 to Nov. 7, 1910
VanScyoc, Jay June 11, 1872 to Dec. 25, 1896

Hope this is of help.

Kate
