U.S. States: Nebraska: Douglas County
Seeking information about Charlotte Day Ayer, known to be living in Omaha, Douglas County, NE. in 1886. She was the daughter of Cynthia Freeman Day who was dead by 1886. Her father’s name has vanished into history. Her mother probably remarried in 1874, to a Wilbur Harvey Rugg. Charlotte Ayer may have had a sister, Ellen Day, who married a man named “Schaft” and resided in New York City in 1886.
A petition to settle the estate of Theodocia Freeman Shaw (b. 1800 at Madrid, St. Lawrence County, NY, d. 19 April 1886 at Madrid, St. Lawrence County, NY) lists “Charlotte Ayer, Omaha, Nebraska” and her sister, Ellen Schaft, as two of the eight next of kin known at its filing on 18 June 1886. Other identified kin of the deceased Theodocia include two of Charlotte’s uncles, Noble Freeman of Beloit, KS and Munson Freeman, River Falls, WI, brothers of Theodocia. The four other next of kin listed are Moses H. and Frank G. Eastman of Oakland, CA, Laura Abbott of Springfield, MO and Edward A. Freeman, the petitioner, of Madrid, NY. (A revised petition on the death of Noble Freeman in 1888 changed Laura Abbott’s residence to “North Springfield, Missouri”.)
The petition asserts that both Charlotte Ayer and Ellen Day are “of full age” in 1886, thus putting their births at or before 1865.
I will gratefully receive and appreciate any supplied information about this family. I have abundant information on the Freeman family and am willing to share this with interested parties.
