I just posted this and wanted to be sure you saw it:
I am hoping someone will know more about George Farritor who was adopted by Patrick S. Sullivan and his wife, Margaret, in about 1884. I know he was the 7 year old son of John Farritor, the younger brother of Robert Garrett Farritor. John lived by Osceola for some time (I have seen a photo) and supposedly died after being shot in a card game in Ogallala. I had alwalys wondered what happened to his children. Now I know where George went - where is Nora, his younger sister. I would like to know as much about George as I can discover. Audrey
Patrick S. Sullivan, son of Patrick, was born March 17, 1842 in Gortadoo, Cty Kerry and died April 17, 1923 in Sargent, Custer, NE. He married Margaret McDonnell May 7, 1872 in Cty Kerry. She was the daughter of John and born May 13, 1849 in Cty Kerry. She died March 3, 1945 in Sargent. They are buried in St. Mary's cemetery there.
His obituary gave the following information:
James T. Sullivan has charge of the farm and lives there with his mother and two sisters, Theresa and Nellie. The eldest daughters Mary Ann died in 1904. Elizabeth m. George Perrin and they lived near Sargent. Adelia married Albert Smith and lived north of Sargent. Catherine married William Roth and lives SE of Sargent.
The Sullivans adopted George Farritor in about 1884 and he became George Sullivan. George is the son of John Farritor. John is the youngest brother of Robert Garrett Farritor, a pioneer in Custer Cty. John lived in Custer Cty in a soddy (I have seen the photo of his family). Supposedly, he died in a card game in Ogallala. He left a widow and two children: George b. 1877 and Nora born a little later. Now I know what happened to George - does anyone know where Nora went. In 1923, George lived in Scottsbluff but I gather he must have come back to Sargent as he was the father of Patrick and Margaret Sullivan (named after their adoptive grandparents) who lived in Sargent.
They also had a foster son, related in some manner, to Margaret. His name was Jerry Mahoney who left when he was old enough and in 1923 was in Saskatchewan, Canada.
Alice Clark says that her mother came to Custer County with her family in 1879. They were in a five wagon caravan which carried James Farritor, Bob (Robert Garrett) Farritor, John and Bridget Devine (does anyone know anything about them?) and the Patsy Sullivans mentioned herein..
Robert Garrett Farritor is my Greatgrandfather and George Farritor is, therefore, my 3rd cousin.
