John Kellar was born in Noble Co. OH (then Morgan Co.) and is the great-grandson of Michael Kellar and Catharine Monroe of Fairfax Co., VA. Catharine was a second cousin of President James Monroe. I've just published a book on this Kellar family - sample pages can be seen at www.MichaelKellar1760.com

John Kellar was a bodyguard for Pres. Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. When he came home he married Louis Kraps of Washington Co., OH and they moved to Warren Co., IA. His parents, Benjamin Harrison and Catharine Ann Miller (Harrison's first cousin)and John's siblings joined them in Warren Co. in 1871. Louis Kellar died and John remarried Matilda Jane Sayre. They moved to Cherry Co and lived on the Kellar ranch near Crookston. When he died, he was buried back in Warren Co., IA with his first wife.
