Cynthia: You might want to give your grandfather's name so that others can view the card. BTW, Devil's Lake is in Ramsey County so it's always good to specify exact location. If you go to the National Register of Historical Places database, you'll find that the downtown distict is listed along with some photographs of the major buildings. It appears to me that many of the old buildings, perhaps from your grandfather's time or earlier, survive. Here is a link:

I doubt that Devil's Lake circa 1918 had more than one or two hotels although it was quite common for folks to stay in boarding houses since they were less expensive. I'm not a local but I'm sure local resources (library, historical/genealogical society, etc.) could help.Rick
