I have Joseph buried at the St. Mary's Minor Mission Cemetery, which is in T131 R88, and is also where, according to land records for 1918, he has land in section 5. The ND Death certificate shows he died Jan. 29, 1920 at age 89 (which puts his DOB as 1831 or so... See https://secure.apps.state.nd.us/doh/certificates/deathCertSearch.htm ). No date of birth is listed there, but the cemetery record also shows 1831. The census page for 1920 is dated 1/23/1920, and he appears to have died on the 29th, so I don't know where he was in the meantime (possibly in a Elgin Hospital?)
This family (Frank's) does not show up in the 1930 Grant Co. census, however several other Volk families do. None of Frank's children seem to appear in any of the cemeterys in Grant Co. either, so they must have moved on by then. Frank did mary Barbara Feist, by the way. The LDS website Familysearch.org shows this and that he died in Bismarck on 9/21/1958. He is listed as Franz J. Volk.
