Need to know in 1880's the lines of town boundries

Hello,

1885 our family is listed in Billings the Dakota Territory census

As Edger Newton age 26 a cowboy born in VT.

Hattie his wife 12 should be 21. born in Wi.

sons

Harvy G. Newon 3 born in MN. county Billings, city Cassselton. County Cass

Linley O. Newton age 8/12 born Dakota county Billings

Edger should be spelt Edgar Allen Newton

Harriet also name for Hattie

They may of had more children that died.

Harvy spelt Harvey Gilbert Newton would like to know where this MN. area was and if there is any data on the family there. or his birth?

Linley O. should be Lindley Ogden Newton. born about 1884-1885

Any help on the boundries, towns life at this time and data on births or family would be so much of a help.

P.S. was Mn. and Dakota the same place? On some of Lindley's records it says he was born in North Dakota?
