Unfortunately, I have no information regarding the Holmans but I do on Bear Creek.

BEAR CREEK(Dickey). This was a relay stage station on the line from Jamestown to Columbia, SD built in 1880.It was located at the corner of Secs. 4, 5, 8 & 9-131-59, Bear Creek Twp., just north of Oakes. The township and this station were named for Bear Creek, which had been named in 1839 by the explorers Nicollet and Fremont. The Indian name for this creek translated as the place where the grizzly bear has his den.
Good Luck with your research!
