I’m starting to get on in years and thought about finding some of my mother’s side of the family. I wanted to at least leave some information for my daughter and son and while I still can remember something’s. I am new at this so I hopefully can give whomever enough information to tie some parts together. I really didn’t follow up when I was there, never occurred to me that now no one wrote anything down. It is in part the Ledford family, I know that right off that is a big family. However, the starting point I have is John (Johnny) Ledford, was a Sheriff in Yancey Country and was injured in WWII in the islands. His mother was my grandfather’s sister – Addie McNaughton Ledford – my Grandfather was James A. McNaughton. As I remember it back in the ‘50s walking up from Ashville, as I was station down in Greenville, SC. You would turn right off the main highway leading into Burnsville and follow a dirt/gravel road until you came to a old general store, I believe it was own by a farmer who also lived up that way and I think his name was Miller. If you took the left turn at that store and went back up further up in the hills (mountains) you again took a left off that road and in a valley there was the home. I understood that the state built some part of it so John could be taken care of, ramps etc. His mother – as I knew her as Aunt Addie live also. There was a fellow – relationship I think was his brother Emmett. He had a wonderful sister, whose photo I still have and is hanging on our wall, Madge, she married a fellow who worked for Fisher Body up in MI. I only saw her couple of times, but remember her very well. Now back down at the general store had you turned right and went up that part the road, he had a brother named Mack. He had a large family, boys and girls; he was truck driver hauling eggs either from or to NC/Fla. There was also two other people who lived with John at the time the relationship I am not sure of at all. Mae and her daughter Betty. I’m not sure but I believe she married the son of the general store Miller. Notify Administrator about this message?
