Interesting question. I think I tend to agree with your grandfather. I saw somewhere, and don't remember where that the wife of Pleasant Blankenship was the daughter of Edward "Big Ned" Wilson. Census records do not bear this out.
1880 Yancey census has Pleasant Blankenship married to Elizabeth, age 65.
Same census in the home of Thomas Wilson of Pensacola, who is a son of Edward, is Elizabeth Roberson, sister, divorced, age 59.
So, it would seem that Elizabeth, daughter of Edward Wilson married a Roberson. Need to study this some more.
