JONESVILLE - Mr. Davis Hugh Swaim Sr., 79, of Swan Creek Road, Jonesville, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born April 4, 1926, in Wilkes County to the late Glenn and Lizzie Myers Swaim. Mr. Swaim was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a life member of Swan Creek Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army in the Third Army, Fifth Division, in which he was awarded the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal for his service. In addition to his parents, his brother, Paul Swaim, also preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Jessie Mae Weatherman Swaim, of the home; son and daughter-in-law Davis and Sherry Swaim of Waynesville; daughter and son-in-law Beth and Al Crouse of Hickory; grandchildren Rachel Swaim, Natalie Swaim and Sarah Swaim, all of Waynesville; brother and sister-in-law Wayde and Pansy Swaim of Ronda; sister Anna Lee Jarvis of Jonesville; special cousin Evelyn Swaim; special aunt De Ette Baity; and a number of nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Swan Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, April 26, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Jonesville.
