I am looking for as much information as possible on Benjamin Greer (1746-1816)while he lived in Wilkes. He lived there for several years including the Revolutionary War period. He is listed as a Constable, possibly the first one, for Moravian Creek which is now Moravian Falls. Records of his RW service seem to be sketchy. He seems to have been a Captain in Col Bemjamin Cleveland's regiment. I have also seen him listed as a Private in the militia. He is listed as a Captain in the RW pension application of Amos Church.
Benjamin Greer married Nancy Wilcoxson, daughter or Sarah Boone Wilcoxson & John Wilcoxson. Sarah was a sister of Daniel Boone.
I wish I had been interested in family geneology when I lived in Wilkes and was attending Wilkes Community College 1969-71. JJ Anderson was one of my teachers at WCC and it seems he was one of the most learned Wilkes historians. I have no idea if he is still living.
As with many people of that time, his name shows up in more than one way. The DAR lists his last name as Grier. He is also referred toas Ben Greer or Grier.
Any information on Benjamin Greer would be greatly appreicated.
