James DAVIDSON, Esq., a wealthy plantation owner on Warrior Creek in Wilkes County, was the father of Ruth DAVIDSON, b. abt. 1776, d. aft. 1804, who married Rev. Ralph McGHEE, b. 1772, d. 1832. Willis McGHEE was their only child and he was reared by his grandfather, James DAVIDSON, who had moved from Warrior Creek in Wilkes County to Brushy Fork in what is now Watauga County. Willis also migrated from Wilkes to Ashe to Watauga, marrying into the Councill Family of Boone.

Mary McCONNELL, b. abt. 1745, Virginia, could have been the wife of this James Davidson and mother of Ruth (US and International Marriage Records, 1560 - 1900).
