I would like to share some info I have and maybe someone can help me fill in the blanks. I'll probably have alot of info you aready know.
I was tracing Mary Jane Minton (d/o Hugh & Elizabeth Martin Minton) who married Jasper Coffey (s/o Joseph & Lucinda Coffey Coffey).
Lucinda Coffey is the d/o Enoch & Prudence Gragg Coffey. I was wondering if Prudence and Martha (listed on census w/Enoch)are the same person? Is Prudence Gragg related to William "Bill" Gragg married to Nancy Coffey, Enoch's sister?
In 1850 Caldwell Co., NC Census there is a Lucindy Coffey age 17 in the household of Verlinia Perkins. Verlinia Coffey was the wife of James Thaddeus Perkins, son of Alexander and Rebecca Moore Perkins. Verlinia (aka: Lincha) Coffey Perkins is a sister to Enoch Coffey.
Info from 1850 Census:
Johns River District, Caldwell Co., NC
Taken: 22nd July Page: 1
1 / 1 Alx. Perkins 74 M Farmer 8500 Lincoln, NC
Rebecca Perkins 61 F Maryland
2 / 2 Verlincia Perkins 27 F Burke, NC
Allison 8 M Caldwell
John 6 M Caldwell Dumb
Thos. 4 M Caldwell
James 2 M Caldwell
Lucindy Coffey 17 F Caldwell
It has been stated that a Joseph Coffey was Jasper Coffey's father and Lucinda Coffey was his mother. I thought maybe that they were cousins that got married. This info was found; Oct. 1849 Caldwell Co., NC Enoch Coffey exec of Josephy Coffey dec’d. That makes me wonder more.
I find Lucinda in the 1860 Caldwell Census married to Stanhope Whisenhunt/Whisnant, s/o Michael & Elizabeth (Black) Whisenhunt.
1860 Caldwell Census.
S. Whisenhunt (S. is Stanhope)- 28
Lucinda - 28
Jasper - 6
Joseph - 5
William - 4 married Anna J. Bartlett
Malinda - 7/12
Jasper Coffey was listed as a Whisenhunt. Don't know why.
Stanhope Whisenhunt died during the Civil War.
Residence: Burke County, North Carolina.
Enlisted as a Private on 12 February 1862 at the age of 32. Enlisted in Company D, 11th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 31 March 1862.
Died of disease Company D, 11th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 18 April 1862 in Camp Magnum, NC.
Lucinda Coffey Whisenhunt marries again in 22 Sept. 1868, to Francis M. Herald s/o Asa Herald. This is all I know of Francis (aka: Frank) Herald, I can't find death, birth, not a thing. Not even on his father Asa Herald. This name was taken from Lucinda and Francis Heralds marriage certificate. Which also states Lucinda as Enoch Coffey's daughter. I also wonder if Asa Herald could have been Alexander Herald from Wilkes Co., NC.
In 1870 in Burke Co., NC Census I find Jasper Coffey age 18 living with the family of Clinton & Margaret (Collett) Parks as a laborer.
On August 21, 1873 Mary Jane Minton married Jasper Pink Coffey in Watauga Co., NC at the home of Richard James Minton her older brother. Jasper and Mary Jane Minton Coffey were found in 1880 Bumcombe Co., NC census and later moved before 1900 Census in Geary Co.,Kansas.
Francis Herald must have died before the 1880 census was taken because Lucinda is a widow again. In 1880 Lucinda Herald is living close to her father.
1880 Caldwell Co., NC

In the 1900 Caldwell Co. census Lucinda Herald and her daughter Lote or Latta are alone. It states Lucinda had 8 children and all 8 were still alive.
In 1910 Lucinda age 78 is living with her son Wilborne Herald. One of her children has pasted away, probably Lote.
The problem I have is I live in PA and don't get to NC much. I don't know Caldwell Co. at all. I was from Watauga Co.. I have tired to find these cemetery listing for Caldwell and have had no luck. Does anyone know where any of the above people are buried?
