In John Preston Arthur's A History of Watauga County she is said to have founded Skyland Institute in 1891. After a short tine she turned it over to the American Missionary Association. in 1912 it was reconveyed to her. It was a girl's school with industrial trainibg

In Heritage of Watauga County Vol I there is an article about her written by Glenn Coffey and Dr Richard Davis Howe. This mentions an autobiographical sketch. There is a good bit abot her including that she had buily=t fifteen schools including those in South Carolina
