William Townsend
Retired Driller

Mr. William Thomas Townsend, 81, of Route 4, Banner Elk, the Dutch Creek Community, died Monday morning, July 24, at Emerald Health Care in Jefferson.

He was born March 2, 1908, in Valle Crucis, a son of Daniel Lafayette and Linda Hollars Townsend. He was a member of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church and was a retired well driller.

Survivors include one son, Larry Townsend of Route 4, Banner Elk; one daughter, Mrs. Linda Z. Eller of Fox Island, Washington; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Hodges of Banner Elk and Mrs. Margaret McKinney of Little Switzerland. Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Davis Townsend.

Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Valle Crucis officiated by Father Chuch Blank. Entombment will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 8:30 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant.

Reins-Sturvidant Funeral Directors in Boone are in charge of the arrangements.
