There were several GUESS families who lived in Orange County, North Carolina from the late 1700's, some of these families moved on to Caldwell County, Kentucky and others stayed in Orange County or other counties in the surrounding area.
Some of these families were:
Joseph Guess who married Constance Taylor (moved to Caldwell County, Kentucky by about 1820)
William Guess who married Anne Wilson (remained in Orange County, North Carolina, but many of his children moved to Caldwell County, Kentucky)
John C. Guess who married Elizabeth Riggs (moved to Caldwell County, Kentucky by about 1820)
Moses Guess who married Elizabeth Warren (remained in Orange County, North Carolina, their only son William Guess who married (1) Frances Laws and (2) Mary Holman moved to Durham County, North Carolina)
Joseph Guess who married Nancy Riggs (remained in Orange County, North Carolina, but some of their children moved to Wake County, North Carolina)
