This is probably correct even though the 1850 Union Co. census shows a Wm. H. Austin, age 12, living with B. A. and Maria Austin, and the 1860 Union Co. census shows a Wade H. Austin, age 22, living with Briant A. and Mariah Austin.
His age on the census and enlistment would make him born 1838.
