I had suspected that William and James were brothers for some time, but I have only recently began investigating the Benge families in North Carolina.

There was an explosion of Benge families in Surry and Wilkes after 1830 where there were no many previously. this circumstantial evidence would lead one to believe that they are all pretty closely related.

In 1850 Surry, Richard Everage has Mary Bange(Benge)21 and Mathilda Bange(Benge)9 in the household. I am investigating the possibility that they are William's or James' children. Alas it is difficult without a will or other cooborating documentation. Surely someone has a family bible or old letter or something that would put them in a specific household.
