What surnames are you finding in the migration from NJ to Surry County, NC?

You might investigate the history of the Great Wagon Train road that moved from Pennsylvania south into Roanoke, VA, area--caled "Big Lick" then and on into Bathebara area, near present-day Wake Forest College in Winston-Salem, NC, on into SC and GA. This road was used by the Cherokee Indians for many years until they formed a treaty and allowed the settlers to use their north/south road. There was a branch that split and went into Kentucky also through West VA or VA.
