Hello Ruth, yes I think there is a connection. William Cockerham was living first in Surry County Nc. I find him later around Buncombe County, Nc living near my Stewart. As a matter a fact there is a deed between one of my Stewarts ane William Cockerham is a witness. Did you Cockerham ever moved to Sc? Nathaniel Stewart, and his family moved about 1800 from Surry County Nc and Patrick county, Va. They only stayed a few years in Sc. by 1810 they were living in Buncombe County, which is just next to the counties you mention. Nathaniel was the son of my GGGGGgrandfather John Stewart 1732-1806. I will have to look at my notes for my Cockerham inforamtion. If you would like email me directly Teresa Stuart de Rios
