Hi Deborah,
THANKS SO MUCH FOR RESPONDING!
My ggrandmother, CHARATA BROWN (WEELDON), mulatto, was born
1833 NC and married WM LAWRENCE " abt 1850 ?
Can find NO info on either prior to 1870 when they are found in Wilmington, NC and can find NO ONE of kin nor
does anyone seem to know of them????
I have no BROWN family info nor can I find any.
Suspect that there may be a connection to RI as I believe
my ggrands were slaves in SC, and the many familiar names of SC are familiar to RI-----too many to discount.
Know that some RI slaveowners removed to Charleston, SC to
avoid paying heavy taxes for owning slaves, but am at a loss as to what to do next after searching for 13yrs.
Warm regards,
carol.
