I am not sure if there are connections, but Sarah Winfield of the Rocky River area was married to Richard Howell of Anson County. She had a son Peter Howell who married Elizabeth Floyd, daughter of Josiah and Mary Tillman Floyd from Virginia and a daughter Charlotte Howell who married Levi Stancell. They relocated to Newton County, GA. Levi was a minister. Peter's family were more in Anson County than Stanly, with a few in Montgomery. Some of them moved west on to Tennessee and Mississippi. Richard had a brother in Anson named Rednap Howell, who was a minister. There were lots of Howell's in Anson. You might want to check there. Sarah remarried Job Davis and had 4 more sons.
