The information I posted came from research I did some 15 years ago. Some of my information came from a magazine published by the Pennsylvania Genealogical Society and some of the information came from a Kirk who passed away some 10 years or so ago. If memory serves me correctly, I believe there are some "lateral" files on this family in the Library in Albemarle.
One of the problems I ran into is that John settled in Montgomery County and several of his children were in Rowan County. The Courthouse for Montgomery County burned in 1838 and records from then back to 1779 when Montgomery County was formed were destroyed. Some information also came from records in Cabarrus, Rowan and Stanly Counties. There are a few early records in Orange and Chatham Counties. John's Revolutionary War date can be found in the National Archives in Washington, D. C.
